This project started off as a Reading Project to a home for underprivileged children. The home was identified by our President, Kim Fong, and the Project Lead, Shirley Tan, who looked at a few homes before settling on Rainbow Home, in Taman Segar, Cheras. This home was chosen because the children fit into the age group we were targetting, which was between 6-12, and the numbers of children were manageable.
After an orientation visit on Sunday, May 21, the first reading session began on June 11, given by IPP Jas Bir Kaur on a Malaysian variation of the story of "The Boy Who Cried Wolf".

The scope of our project grew as we grew to know the children of Rainbow Home. Carol organised a hair cutting session and also organised a donation of bedsheets and blankets from Ancasa Hotel. Dr. Kamala made a special visit to the home on 19 September to see the children's skin problems.
SIPJ Members and guests visit the home regularly - every second and fourth Sunday of the month. It is very enriching and rewarding to see the children respond to our stories. We need as much help as we can get! It is not just our giving some time every so often to the children - after all, it's only a couple of hours on a Sunday morning - but to get to know the children and their characters is heart warming indeed. So please do join us - check the calendar and see when you are free and let us know - and let the kids touch your life too.
